IWM London Large Exhibits Gallery
The Large Exhibits Gallery is the setting for some of the most important weapons and vehicles in the collections.

Military Weapons
Examples of several of the artillery pieces used in both world wars can be seen. These include:

  • British 9.2-inch Howitzer
  • Mark V tank, 1918
  • British Infantry Tank Mark II 'Matilda', used in France and the Western Desert 1940 - 41
  • M4 Sherman tank
  • Jagdpanther tank destroyer

Naval Weapons
Exhibits include:

  • 4-inch gun from the destroyer HMS Lance, which fired the first British shot of the First World War
  • First World War gun from the German submarine U98
  • A Second World War German one-man Biber submarine
  • An Italian 'human torpedo' underwater craft used against the Allied Fleet in Alexandria 1941
  • The Tamzine, the smallest surviving fishing boat to have taken part in the evacuation from Dunkirk in 1940
