Time:1.00pm - 4.30pm

West Indian Country Cart
The West Indian people provided many
essential commodities including sugar, rum,
wood, cotton and fuel oil during the First World
War. Photograph shows a country cart bringing
in oranges which were then shipped to other
parts of the Empire.
This series of free From War to Windrush lectures will give you a chance to add depth and contribute to discussions about topics covered in the exhibition. They will be taking place monthly in the Museum’s conference room and are in association with Tony Warner of The 100 Black Men of London, www.100bmol.org.uk.

This lecture will focus on the American presence in the Caribbean from the First World War through the Second World War and the influence of US segregation policies on Britain. It will examine the differences between American racism and British racism, look at the bases-for-warships exchange between the US and Britain during the Second World War and discuss the long-term impact of American culture in the Caribbean. Films will include The Other American Invasion and Life and Debt.
