Visitors with Disabilities

We are committed to ensuring the Imperial War Museum is accessible to all visitors, regardless of disability, and hope the facilities we have introduced enhance your visit.

Physical Disability


Access to the building
The main entrance is 50 metres from Lambeth Road on a tarmac path through the park. There are 10 steps leading to the front door and a further three steps once inside the building. Step-free access is through the Park Entrance, 50 metres along a tarmac path to the right of the building. Follow the signs or ask a member of staff for assistance.

Wheelchair Access
All areas of the Museum are accessible to wheelchairs except the upstairs of the 1940s house in The Children’s War exhibition. Lifts are available at the back of the Large Exhibits Gallery and serve all floors. A lift is also available in The Holocaust Exhibition. Wheelchair access into and out of the building is via the Park Entrance. Please ask for assistance from a Museum Assistant to enter the Blitz Experience and the Trench Experience.

Seating
Permanent seating is available throughout the Museum.

Portable Seating
Lightweight folding stools can be borrowed from Reception or the Information Desk. 

Toilets
Accessible toilets are available on all floors except the third and fourth.  Please check your floor plan for exact locations.  Please note there are no toilets in The Holocaust Exhibition or Crimes Against Humanity.

Wheelchairs
The Museum has a number of manual, folding frame wheelchairs that can be borrowed for the duration of your visit.  Please ask at Reception or the Information Desk.  To book in advance of your visit, please telephone 020 7416 5000.
