When we have won this blasted war, I am going to live in Jamaica. Just live in Jamaica and lap it up, and swim in the sea and write books.
Ian Fleming
James Bond was born on a February morning in 1952 when Ian Fleming, a middle–aged journalist, started to type the novel he had been promising to write since the war.
Fleming often wrote seated at this desk, which was situated in the master bedroom at Goldeneye, his villa in Jamaica. He preferred to write in the living room, which overlooked the sea, but distractions caused by house guests meant that the bedroom also had to be a study.
